Dotted with cabanas, sunbeds, and restaurants, Unawatuna Beach is a major tourist highlight in Sri Lanka. Visited by both locals and foreign travellers, the beach is known for ecotourism. Unawatuna also has a long history dating back to the Dutch era. According to historical records, the town was the battleground between the Dutch and the Portuguese, and the colourful description given in the classic Ramayana by Valmiki does justice to the beach as well.
Lounging on the beach with the embrace of the soothing sea breeze is a favourite pastime here, but for an intimate encounter with the mesmerising underwater world, try some snorkelling in the Unawatuna Bay; the beach is ideal for getting acquainted with diving, surfing, and jet skiing as well. Unawatuna Beach is a two-hour journey from Colombo and only 15 minutes from our apartments.
